Alex Dizes

I am a Connecticut based photographer that has experience in sports, travel, landscape and wedding shoots.  While I love capturing all moments with my camera, my true passion is sports photography.  I have grown up playing a variety of sports and as
I no longer am a part of a team, I have found that the most exciting part is capturing the fleeting moments in these high pressure games.  Photographs are the defining moments of history and a good picture will last a lifetime. I want to be behind the lens for as many of these moments that I can; memorializing these high emotion moments.

schooling

As an undergraduate student at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, I majored in Sports Management and minored in Photography.  I realized my love for both sports and photography could be combined into my career, and decided to continue my studies at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.  I will be receiving my Master's degree in Sports Communication and Media this coming August, 2024.  This program was such an enriching experience as I learned a multitude of skills related to all facets of sports management.  These include Photoshop, Illustrator, AVID editing software, Premiere, experience in a control room, camera work, graphics operation, and more.  I am so grateful to have participated in this program and know it has prepared me for a career in sports management.

internship

During my senior year at Emmanuel College, I completed an internship at the neighboring school Simmons University.  This role was to directly assist their Athletic Communications Director in all aspects of their marketing and promotion.  I worked both in the office and at softball and lacrosse games.  In the office, I  updated records and statistics on the website after each game, wrote game previews, and edited game footage.  At games my main responsibility was to run the Instagram and post to their story.  I was able to increase their engagement and was tasked with creating a social media guide for future use of other student workers.  I also worked the stats table, queued walk up music, set up equipment and assisted wherever needed.  This was a great first hands on experience to get me excited for my upcoming career.

work experience

Currently, I work as a Strategic Content Specialist at Mount Holyoke College.  Working in this position has allowed me to elevate my graphics, experiment with photography and learn how an athletic office operates daily.  Social media is a big focus in athletics, and I have been able to add new elements such as video, different photography styles and Photoshop designs to improve the image of the athletics page.  I have also been able to coordinate, set up and execute media days to produce content for the teams.  This position has allowed me to be involved in event management as well as I have gained skills to coordinate events run by the department and student athletes.  I have learned so much at this institution and it has made me confident in my ability to thrive in an athletics department.
